Many physicians use the Genesis laser to treat rosacea, a chronic condition characterized by flushing or redness of the face. While distinct vessels can be part of the condition, the overall redness is caused by vessels that are too small to see individually.
While this is typically a harmless cosmetic condition, patients can complain of heating or discomfort when they flush. The condition is more common in Caucasians, affects women more than men, and is most common between the ages of 30 and 60. Triggers of rosacea episodes can include strenuous exercise, temperature extremes, alcohol, caffeine, and spicy foods.
